My laptop here now has a homemade infrared receiver fitted which allows me to control all sorts, from mp3 to DVD to any application from the comfort of my armchair. With the laptop video feeding into the TV it makes a nice setup.

I'm very angry with myself for having purchased a MS Sidewinder Pro USB joypad, breaking all the hard work I've been putting into saving my money. The joypad, by the way, is predictably rubbish. I rarely even play games. As a result my electric guitar is going.

As I understand it my new house has a DSL router piping ADSL broadband into the house. Every bedroom as well as some other rooms have a network socket. Just seen some photos of the house being wired....notice the space under the wooden flooring to stash all my warez CDs (joke btw - I have no warez).

Looks like a lot of geekness going down in there, gonna have to be careful not to fall back into that too much ;-)

On the end of a lame 56k softmodem link right now (parents computer), will have to hook up my laptop to the phone line I think. Hmm the world looks strange in IE 6.

Time for another boring update.

Friday went to Los Marinos - a Spanish bar opposite where I live. Had a good time in some ways, had to dance to some slow tunes like Gareth Gates (oh god its come to this...) but my retort is that I was dancing with a gorgeous Eastern European girl, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Saturday I went to The Isle of Wight which was fantastic. Great weather and I just chilled on the beach (with sand!) and the whole thing was great. This was after we landed at West Cowes and discovered there seemed to only be one small taxi servicing the entire island. We made it to Ryde by bus thru the clever decision to actually look at the time table rather than believe my friend when he said there were no direct bus links.

Saturday night, against my better judgement, I went to the Academy. I had lots of work to do and knew I'd have a bad time (plus I didn't want to spend any more money). And so I spent about ?4 for the entire night and had the greatest time. (Damnit!). Entry was free (before a certain time) and I decided to live like the Spanish girls who brought along a bottle of whisky they swiped from some friends. Half coke, half whisky and we shared that all night. Plus I had a bottle of champagne I had stored. So the girls got drunk, I did a little bit too and we had an amazing time. The tunes were awesome (I thought they only played Garage which I loath but it was House most of the night).

Sunday saw Austin Powers 3 - Goldmember....same old jokes but was very funny in some places, especially the start.

Sunday evening just chilled - Miriam and I decided to play Naughts and Crosses and draw random pictures on Susana's perfectly tanned smooth skin. This proved to be quite amusing but we soon ran out of space. I recommend this activity for anyone lucky enough to know a girl with a goddess like body, who isn't tickled easily, and who is willing to let your draw all over her (but I don't mean ALL over her of course...)

All this action makes me quite confused, I seem to go out on my own with several girls at a time (i,e, no male companions), have lots of fun, we all get on really well then eventually I go to bed (on my own or otherwise) and at some point I may pass a mirror and suddenly think...er why...aren't I supposed to be good looking to do this or something, why do these people want to spend time with me. I know I have compensated for my looks by being kind, generous etc etc but people only get to know me in that way after they have met me.

One theory, maybe the girls are tired of every wanna-be Cassanova trying to hit on them and they assume that I won't hit on them because I know I don't stand a chance. Then they get to know me and realise I'm a fairly nice person and it all goes from there. Just an idea. Have I said too much? lol

I think there is something in this, because when I tried my best to refuse the invitation of going out on Saturday they practically begged me to come because they didn't want to go with the other French or English guys (this is true, honest). I think it's because I look after them and on several ocasions when Susana gets some unwanted attention (this happens a lot of course) she comes to me in a "I'm with him" kinda thing. It could be a friendly ego boosting exercise of course, but I'm not complaining! I know she has a boyfriend back in Spain and she wouldn't be interested etc etc same old story. This whole year has been some huge confidence theropy and I learn something every day.

If you have read this far you are waaaay too dedicated, too bored, or too nosey.

Lunch Time!

hmmm is something wrong with ICQ because there are usually several people online but right now nobody is showing as online.

Anyway, Friday I had an interview day at IBM Warbrook (to come back to IBM after Uni) which went well, breezed the interview as usual, not sure about the rest of the day. Will be December before I hear anything about an offer I think.

Friday night was very large, many of my friends left IBM on Friday so it was a big night - plus I turned 21 at midnight. Loads of my friends were out, went to see some of them at the pub then on to the Academy to meet the rest of my friends and the Spanish girls.

So Saturday was my 21st Birthday. Went into town early to do some banking, booked a restaurant for Sunday, did some washing (all the usual stuff you do on your 21st). Went into Winchester to see some of the sights, plenty of history there (used to be the capital of England at one point). Sat. night just chilled.

Sunday went for a run, met my parents and went to the restaurant which was very nice. Watched the movie "What woman want" - my flatmate has a thing about Mel Gibson so it was for her benefit - honest.

Monday I was on vacation, forgot I had booked this and nearly went to work! Lazy day, purchased some kickass walking sandals - sooo comfy with the air getting to your feet, don't know why I haven't worn sandals before now. Then, really exciting - I went to Tesco in the evening, got some quality food. The Spanish people spent a total of ?3 each for their food (which they share) and I spent ?23. I found out they get paid at the end of the month so they are surviving on little money. I find it strange that they are willing to buy only the Tesco value products, including eggs - which I absolutely refuse to do, yet they buy some clothes from Top Shop. I guess its about what is important to you. Though to be fair I guess I buy expensive clothes _and_ organic free range eggs so perhaps I'm not in a position to comment.

So back to work.

hmm got a light introduction to Spanish course on CD on Sunday. Didn't work very well on my CD player so I took it back yesterday to get a refund. Seemed to work when I recorded it to MiniDisc before I took it back though ;-) Only listened to 20 mins of it so far but its not like the usual language courses I've done, its pretty good fun and I've already said various things to keep my flat mates amused. Apparently I speak like a child, but at least they understand hehe

ahh ok now i can update my journal. Going early, so I can work from home (after I've done all sorts of things I need to do in town).

Friday went to a work BBQ, left shortly afterwards and went out with the Spanish girls which was fun - especially getting a lift home with Francois (the French guy in my flat). Two of us were in the boot of the car on the way home! hehe, luckily not a long journey.

Saturday, Francois took me and the Spanish girls to Brighton and we chilled on the beach in the sunshine where they were holding the free open air concert - fatboy slim was playing. We left the beech at 7:00pm and headed into town, the beech was waaaayyy to small for the amount of people.....200,000 people turned up I think. So we avoided the crush (one girl was killed I believe) and had a better time for it. Francois then left his French friends and met us back at the car about 11pm.....was a long day.

Sunday got up late, went for a run, got some food etc. Tried to improve my Spanish! Chilled for ages with the Spanish girls (can anyone spot a re-occuring theme here?!)

Anyway, off home soon, gonna do some chores, then go to the park and sit in the sun, play a little football etc....with...... the Spanish girls! ... and maybe the Polish guy from the other flat who will no doubt be downing 3 litre bottles of cheap cider. yuk.

current mood: blank

Just got myself an external USB 2.0 HDD, a Freecom 60GB one. Check the link: here.

Will be useful to transfer the 15 gigs of stuff I have on my work machine before I leave plus archive the 50 or so divx dvd rips my friend just got on CD! Plenty of swapping going to go on I think. It was only ?170inc. which I thought was very reasonable.

Got a check from the tax office, ?258 - nice.

Oh, and I didn't go out on Friday to Winchester - the Spanish girls invited me out so I took them to the Academy (they couldn't afford it so I subsidised their entry without them knowing - how kind am I). Cost me a bit, and I hate the Academy but I knew they would like it. They had a great time and so I did too, they even got the DJ to dedicate "I like to move it move it" to me! I looked after them all night and got them home safely (they would not let me get too drunk). It was funny watching the guys faces and hearing the gasps as I walked around with 3 pretty Spanish girls, but hey, what can I do - I live with them!

Saturday they wanted to see the balloon fair so we went and watched some hot air balloons launch and checked out the fair. It was late by the time we got home so we got some drinks in and they made Calimucho - not sure if thats how you spell it but essentially it's chilled red wine mixed with coke in equal parts. Then played some drinking games - but I didn't get drunk because we were drinking Spanish quantities.

Went to bed at 6:00am so got up late on Sunday, and in the evening we all watched The English Patient dvd in my room, I was amazed they understood most of it.

Man I just get the luck sometimes.

Went out Tuesday with the Spanish flat mates, they had half a Stella each and I have 5 Tequilla slammers and a pint of Stella..., but it eased the pain a little and I was in a pretty good mood. Had Wednesday off on vacation too.

Thursday I had to see the bank because something screwed up and I had no money at all - got that sorted, came into work and went to pub to see my manager at his leaving celebrations - had some lemonade without the lemon bit...which annoyed me even more. Then went home again!

Me and Kelly saw Minority Report last night, usual Spielberg stuff. Got home had some Sushi and that was that.

Supposed to be going to Winchester tonight to see a friends band playing their final gig, think everyone is gonna be there, will pop along for a bit I think.

Gonna skive off early again with everyone else, I've done almost no work this week.

Me: "No it's IBM."

New flat is good so far. Staying there with a couple of mates and four Spanish people, three of them chicas (girls). Very friendly, will be going out with them tonight....and I have the day off tomorrow thankfully.

Booked some random holiday all over the month because I have 9 days to use up. When I leave I'll still have 5 days holiday, so that's an extra few hundred quid in my pocket =) But I need that money because I'm so poor right now.

Got a nice long email from my Russian friend, always good to get that, makes the day more interesting. Suppose I should do some work now, *sigh*

I'm tired and in a grumpy mood for various reasons so don't test me, I SAID DON'T TEST ME BOY!

I moved house yesterday which was some hassle. a couple of my friends were in the flat opposite and had enough dinner to let me join them which was good. Then went to pub to catch up and play some pool. I was ashamed at how much stuff I have got, all of it useful but not all of it needed. I think that rather than get a job in August I'll just sell some of my stuff coz I have so many stupid things.

On Saturday went to Lennon's with Kelly and Laura and I got to show off my new Green Eyes!!! Quite a weird experience - I always wanted to know what it was like to wear contacts...and it was pretty fun.

Friday saw us drinking some wine and a huge bottle of champagne, then went to the D where they were playing trance and dance for some reason.

Had an early meeting today so I had to get up at 5am to finish a little work then walk really quickly to the otherside of town to catch the bus which took a while.

I just wanna go sleep somewhere and not ever have to get up.

Just playing with my new laptop from work, a thinkpad 600E. Not a huge spec but very cool. PII 400mhz 192mb ram. Fast enough for most things portable and the most important part - it is very compact and light which is what I wanted.

Also been playing with my Libretto mini-laptop. Got rid of Debian because it wasn't able to use it to its full potential (although it worked fine). So running win98 SE updated from the latest MSDN set. Good choice because it is modern but fits in just over 200mb which is handy for the small HDD. Now I have 600mb to play with.

I put my Siemens SL45 phone near the libretto and it connected. Installed a standard 19200 modem off the InfraRed port and because of the built in modem in my phone I can Dial the net from a mobile location. Also looked up stuff you can get for the SL45 and found the phone is a lot more advanced than I realised........a firmware upgrade will convert it to a SL45i and I will be able to run java apps and games on it. Very very sweet....wonder if I should try and flash the firmware myself from this dodgy looking Italian app I found??

Hmm just got a new HDD for the 600E....the 10GB one was corrupt so had to settle for the 6gb. Battery seems fine, all working.......and.........the HDD is a really slimline version and I think there is a good chance it would fit in a libretto!....
